Cameras roll on Khalo Matabane’s 28s in KwaZulu Natal

Award-winning director, Khalo Matabane (State of Violence, Conversations on a Sunday Afternoon and Nelson Mandela: The Myth and Me), acknowledged as one of South Africa’s leading talents has begun shooting his latest feature, 28s, a gritty exposé of life inside prison. The film, inspired by Jonny Steinberg's award-winning non-fiction novel, The Number, its big screen adaptation by Paul Ian Johnson reveals the origins of the fearsome numbers gangs that operate in prisons throughout South Africa.

'The Number' - Feature Film

Directed by Khalo Matabane, screenplay adapted by Paul Ian Johnson, and produced by Carolyn Carew and Tsholo Mashile, this gritty prison film is based on the novel about Cape Flats prison 28 gang leader Magadien Wentzel by award-winning writer, Jonny Steinberg (Business Day columnist and Professor of African Studies, Oxford University).

Our award winning documentary, Nelson Mandela, the myth and me, directed by Khalo Matabane and produced by Carolyn Carew will screen from the 27th April till 6th May 2015 at The Bioscope, JHB and Labia Cinemas in CT. 


We got 7 nominations at the SAFTAS announcements - for best drama (born free media), best director (Jahmil), best art directions (tanya von tonder); best editing (sharron hawkes and tanya hagen); best music composition (jorge arrigone); best sound design( guy steer) and best makeup team.

Sobukwe a Great Soul wins Best Documentary Zanzibar Film Festival.

Director Mikiey Dube and Producer Carolyn Carew are thrill to have been awarded Best Documentary for their film Sobukwe a Great Soul at the Zanzibar Film Festival. The award was given in Zanzibar on the evening of Saturday 21st June.

“Nelson Mandela: the “myth and me” screens on ZDF / arte GERMANY

A special screening was held in Berlin on the 9th April attended by Khalo for the pre-launch of the film before it screened on ZDF/ARTE in Germany and France on the 23rd April 2013.
