Carolyn is an award winning executive producer of world-class television and multimedia concepts.  

Over the last 30 years she has produced a number of award winning television drama series, feature length documentaries, South Africa’s first reality TV show, plus produced Cinema and Television Commercials.  She recently completed her feature film, THE NUMBER, directed by Khalo Matabane and premiere in Toronto in September at TIFF 2017.  She produced Nelson Mandela, the myth and me, directed by Khalo Matabane and won Special Jury at IDFA, November 2013.  It was a co-production with BBC and ZDF / ARTE with Gebrueber Beetz Filmproduktion in Berlin, Germany.

 In 2011 she produced Sobukwe; A Great Soul, a feature length documentary which won the Amnestry Award for Human Rights at the Durban International Film Festival. She has completed her second season of Play Your Part Television sereis for Brand South Africa that profiles ordinary South Africans doing extraordinary things by making a difference in the lives of other people.

Her drama series “When We Were Black” won seven awards at the South African Film and TV Awards, best drama at Fespaco and Reims International Film Festival.

She was head of the Newtown Film and Television School (1992-1995) and Manager of Television training at SABC (1995 – 2000).  She spearheaded major television training initiatives in South Africa that produced some of South Africa’s top young producers and directors, and received a number of award nominations. In September 2000 she joined loveLife, a youth social marketing campaign as Head of the TV unit.

Furthermore, as a producer she has created and produced numerous youth reality shows for loveLIfe and Broadcast HIV Africa that promote critical thinking amongst youth within a developmental framework for South African and Pan-African audiences.   

Carolyn has been the Producer for the production consortium of Broadcast HIV Africa a Section 21 company, which launched the historical African Broadcast Media Against HIV/AIDS: a coalition of 66 broadcasters (Radio and TV) from 38 countries on the African Continent in 2006 after a call by the UN for media to unity against the fight of HIV.  She produced three long running reality TV shows – Imagine Africa across the African Continent, Radio serialised dramas, and 9 campaigns on Radio and TV PSA's, combined with resource material to support the broadcasters.  She is part of a team that develops, designs, and producers the material. 

Carolyn holds a degree in Social Sciences and post-graduate studies in Human Resources Management from the University of Cape Town South Africa. She began her career in the feature film industry in 1987 as an Assistant Director (Circles in the Forest, Damned River, and Tiger Tiger and Burning Bright) before moving into film and TV commercials.

She served as a council member on the inaugural South African National, Film and Video Foundation from 1999 -2002 (NFVF) and SASFED representative on the MAPP SETA from 2010/2011.

She started BFM in 2005. Carolyn is passionate about telling stories that resonate with human emotions and making a difference in the lives of other people.
